Anna Engel

filmmaker, mythmaker, writer

Anna Engel is an artist, filmmaker, writer, and mythologist who is currently based wherever her passport is. Born and raised in Northern Nevada, she discovered a love of stories at a young age, writing her first book at only 6 years old. It may have only been three sentences long, but it cemented her love of storytelling. She discovered filmmaking in high school when she co-directed a short film that placed in several regional festivals.

Anna pursued filmmaking throughout college, graduating with a BA in Cinema Art and Science from Columbia College Chicago in 2019. After graduation, she packed up her life in the windy city and, along with her emotional support demon, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film. For several years after graduating, Anna worked in VFX, contributing to a number of shows on Netflix, Amazon, and Showtime. She is now transitioning into being a full time filmmaker and producer, and she is currently producing a docuseries about women's wisdom and a Scottish fantasy feature film.

While working in VFX, Anna returned to school in 2023 to pursue a Masters in Depth Psychology and Creativity at Pacifica Graduate Institute. Graduating in 2025, her thesis was a documentary film that explored the politics of aesthetics through the grotesque mythic lens. She is continuing her studies by pursuing a PhD that will focus on the mythic narratives of PTSD and trauma.

When she isn't producing films or trying to heal the world, Anna is also an avid writer with two published memoirs under her belt. She is currently working on her debut fantasy novel, which will be complete in 2026.
